Happy Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning which means an early end to winter, or so the legend goes. Despite the forecast, we still have a few more weeks of potential winter weather ahead. We thought we’d share our favorite ideas for how to embrace the cold and revel in the end of the season.
1. Take a Ski Trip
Whether a local day trip or a longer extended weekend, gather your friends, your family or your significant other and head out for some good old fashioned winter sport. Skiing, sledding, ice skating–any of the oldies, but goodies will do. You’ll burn some calories, breathe some fresh air and have fun defrosting at the end of the day.
2. Get Cozy
With the daylight continuing to wane early, and the days themselves dreary at best, February can feel a bit grey. Rather than enduring, embrace! Find a cozy blanket and read that book you’ve been meaning to get to. Have a movie marathon. Whatever indoor, slovenly activity you love, but brings on a guilt trip come Spring when you’re wasting daylight and fresh air, the dregs of winter are perfect for.
3. Get a Jump on Spring Cleaning
No lie, spring cleaning is a drag. It’s the best feeling to have a nice clean house, but actually doing the cleaning is no fun at all. Get started on some of your bigger projects ahead of time. Whether it’s organizing your closet or hitting those little nooks and crannies, a cold winter afternoon is the perfect time to knock something off the cleaning list way ahead of schedule.
Evoking childhood memories of coming in from playing in the cold and warming up at the kitchen table with a nice mug of marshmallow-filled liquid bliss, hot chocolate can be enjoyed even when we’re all grown up. Make it a quiet night in and curl up with a nice old-school mug topped with mallows or whipped cream. Or, if you’re feeling frisky, add a healthy adult shot. Fireball, amaretto, Bailey’s or RumChata all sound like winners.
5. Flannel Sheets
There’s nothing worse in cold weather than crawling into bed and hitting icy sheets. You’re trying to evoke cozy, sleepy thoughts and WHAM you’re wide awake and freezing! Go on a little shopping spree and indulge in flannel sheets. You’ll slide into a warm cocoon perfect for hibernating and sleep these cold, wintery nights away.
What winter activity are you hoping to still squeeze in?
